Your information

What stays with your workspace.

How information is used in the current pilot version of Open Counsel.

Account and saved records

The app uses your signed-in identity to associate your name, email, conversations, matters, uploaded files, saved details, and attorney preparation with your account. These records let you return to your work. The owner dashboard shows account details, access status, aggregate usage, and technical request diagnostics. It does not expose consumer chat or document contents. Consumer accounts are created when you sign in with ChatGPT.

AI processing

When you request an AI reply, the server sends recent messages and relevant information from the same matter to OpenAI. This can include details you explicitly saved and the contents of attached documents and images. Files are sent to OpenAI when you request a reply. PDF page images and image files can be read visually, including scanned text. Non-PDF documents provide text; spreadsheets provide a limited preview. Original files remain in your workspace.

The assistant can also use web search when current information or supporting sources are needed. Search queries are processed by the search service. The assistant is instructed to use generic queries and avoid private identifiers and confidential passages. Your API credential stays on the server. An AI conversation does not create attorney-client privilege.

Your controls

You can delete conversations, remove saved details, and download your records from Settings & your information in the assistant. Original files can be downloaded from Files & details. Files included in a prepared attorney packet must be removed from that preparation by withdrawing the packet before they can be deleted.

Deleting a conversation removes that conversation and its messages. It does not automatically remove the associated matter, files, or already prepared packets. Those remain separately in your workspace.

Attorney preparation

Preparing a packet saves a copy of the information you select for review. This version does not deliver it to an attorney. You can review or withdraw the packet in your workspace.

Contact messages

Submitting the contact form saves your name, email address, and message for the Open Counsel owner to review in a private inbox. These submissions are separate from your chats and are not sent to the AI. Contact messages are retained for follow-up; automatic deletion is not configured.
